![]() So, yeah, I look forward to the day I can make a videogame with a chick with flat, droopy boobs and fat butt who's still sexy, or a superhero with a pot belly who still knows how to come off looking cool. ![]() If I watch the Bachelorette and those dudes take their tops off and every one of them has amazing pecs - yeah, that makes me feel like crap as well." I am an avid reader of Marvel comics and, believe me, Wolverine's ass makes me feel shitty about my own ass in comparison. "But welcome to NEARLY EVERY SINGLE THING IN POP CULTURE EVER. "If you're saying that Juliet Starling is, like Barbie, an impossible ideal that makes women feel bad about their own bodies in comparison well, okay. But my question is, so what? How in the world does that convey that women are less than men?" And, yes, that probably helps to sell copies of the game. To be honest, I think a lot of the criticisms of LC's 'sexism' are really coming from a place where the secret message is sex is bad, sexual attraction is bad, lust is bad. There is nothing in the game, ever, that makes females somehow less than males. "But I think it's important people don't confuse sexuality with sexism. And there's a lot of grindhouse and Russ Myer in LC - a fun, floppy, over-the-top sexuality that plays with those old forms but is self–aware of them the entire time." A lot of that is just because Lollipop Chainsaw took an everything-and-the-kitchen-sink approach - it's utterly shameless in that regard. Lollipop Chainsaw is titillating, for sure. "Our physical forms - and the idealized forms of those physical forms we find in pop culture - are something most of us find appealing, whether it's Juliet's butt or Batman's ripped abs. "Well, listen, like it or not we are, actually, all objects," he responded. James Gunn, for his part, doesn't try to, but he refuses to classify the game as "sexist" in any way. The game has been accused of objectifying the lead character, and it's certainly difficult to deny it. Regardless of what Lollipop Chainsaw says about relationships and no matter how much it objectifies Nick, there's no escaping the fact that Grasshopper's game features a cheerleader in a very skimpy skirt who isn't shy about providing gratuitous panty shots. Lollipop Chainsaw's James Gunn talks sexiness and sexism - destructoid And even fewer would remember this article: I also get the impression that even fewer people remember that this game was written by a now famous director named James Gunn. ![]() (Though the character is remembered enough to sometimes be used as a negative example of video game women in a recent article or video or GDC presentation at the 9:42 timestamp ) I get the impression that most people have forgotten this game existed. In 2012 a game called Lollipop Chainsaw was released. r/CoOpGaming - A community for co-op gaming ![]() r/xboxone - Xbox-specific subreddit for general Xbox news and discussion r/playstation, /r/PS4 & /r/PS5 - PlayStation-specific subreddits for general PlayStation news and discussion r/pcgaming - PC gaming-specific subreddit for general PC gaming news, discussion and gaming tech support r/nintendo - Nintendo-specific subreddit for general Nintendo news and discussion r/shouldibuythisgame - Find out what's worth getting. r/gamingsuggestions - Go here to help you find your next game to play r/gaming4gamers - Discussion, bar the Hivemind Top-level comments must be at least 100 characters in length.Accounts must be at least one month old.External Links must follow these guidelines No topics that belong in other subreddits This subreddit shouldn't be used for advice of any kind.
